“People just come to me. I never go looking for clients,”-Olivier Metzner
What do I think of lawyers who look for fame instead of representing their clients? I think those lawyers need to have lawyers themselves because their job is to represent the people who hire them. If they are not going to do that job then they should not be in practice. Lawyers are supposed to work for the people who come to them and the people they look for. A lawyer should never look to pad their own wallet with the money that should be going to their client. The people who go to lawyers for help often can’t afford to loose their case. Fame is fleeting and therefore if a lawyer does his or her job only for the fame, when it runs out they may loose their jobs. It must be remembered that the client comes first. Advertising for business is one thing. Advertising for fame is another thing entirely. Your job and your client should be your first priority and you fame and wealth should fall far behind. If a job is done properly then the fame that is desired usually follows through word of mouth from former and present clients. A lawyer should be humble and listen well to the people they represent. It is their job to know what to say and how to say it properly to get the client what they are seeking. If the lawyers sole focus is to make themselves look good then they are distracted from their ultimate goal.
